When did you last visit your own website? Did you find what you expected?
A friend was looking at his high school yearbook last week and commented on how times had changed in the past ten or so years…and how different everyone looked, dressed, and so forth. It did make for interesting conversation and more than a few chuckles that evening. On the way home, however, I began thinking about web design and how things have changed there, too, over the past few years. Technology moves more and more quickly every day and if you are in the business and don’t work full time just keeping up with it, you end up out of the mainstream and have to play catch-up constantly.
And, so, how does this all apply to your particular website? As your web designer team, we are doing everything from a web functionality and service provider to make sure your website is up and running at its peak functionality. And we are working full time at keeping all our customers’ websites functioning at peak. But, you do bear some of the responsibility, too. Not so much in the day to day functionality, but in keeping the content current. We depend upon your input for any product or service changes that need to be made. For example, if you no longer carry a product or are replacing a current product with an updated version, you need to inform us of the change so that we can make it on your website.
But, let’s look beyond that for a moment. How long has it been since you took the time to visit your own website from a customer’s point of view? Are your graphics up to date and do they represent accurately your product or service line, or do they look like a yearbook photo from the 60’s? How about the text on your various web pages? Do they represent what your business is or who you are today? Are you making use of new trends in on-line marketing, such as being featured on FaceBook or Twitter? Are you posting regular articles that will steer more people to view and use your site? As a customer, would you think your site is current and interesting? How well do you compete with others in your field? Are you bringing in new business on a routine basis, or is your customer base trending toward repeat clients as time goes by?
We recommend you take a look at your site several times a year – think about how current your information is, how it is presented, and what the impact has on first time viewers. Then give us a call and discuss how we can help improve the traffic count and flow for you. Think about social networking and how you can better take advantage of this marketing trends. We’re here to help you – which means that your participation is a very, very valuable thing!
